Please join us for Beginner Hockey on Monday and Thursday evenings 6:00 – 7:00 for tots and non-skaters and other beginning youth skaters.
We have had many children start the program as young as 3 yrs old as well as adults learning how to skate at any age.
Our program includes a USA Hockey certified (Level 3) instructor providing instruction and a fun environment for the kids. A typical session includes skating drills and games. We strongly believe if your child enjoys these sessions, he or she will want to continue and learn how to skate in the process. We follow USA hockey instruction guidelines which will help your child learn the basics whether he/she goes on to hockey, figure skating or just wants to learn for fun and recreation.
What does it cost?
This program session fee is $100 PLUS free admission to public sessions for the season. Skates are included.
How do I sign up?
We require that all of our skaters sign up with USA hockey for this program which provides insurance for your skater through the 2016/2017 season.
- Step 1 – Sign up with USA hockey online and print your receipt.
- Step 2 – Print and fill out the Consent to Treat/ Medical History Form and the Participant Code of Conduct
- Step 3 – Bring these 3 forms with you when you come for your first session.
What happens if I miss a session?
You will have to commit to a session and come to as many of them as you can. There will not be makeup sessions available.
How is my child protected from falling?
Yakima Ice Rink will provide your child with protective gear and helmet that they can use while enrolled in the program. We also have USA hockey rental gear that is available to rent for the season. This will completely outfit your child with new state of the art hockey gear including shoulder pads, pants, elbow pads, shin guards, and helmet. The Rental gear is on a first come, first serve basis. We currently have 20 sets available.
Rental fee is $60 for the season
How does my child advance to the next level?
Once your child masters basic skating techniques, he/she can join the Youth Hockey Program on Mondays or Tuesdays depending on age. Many Youth Hockey skaters continue to attend Beginner Hockey sessions in order to improve their skating skills.
